SAN DIEGO, CA —Today, Shana Hazan, former public school teacher, nonprofit executive, and parent of an SDUSD student, announced that she has been endorsed by the San Diego County Democratic Party (SDCDP), solidifying county and state Democratic support behind her bid for SDUSD School Board.
The party’s Metro West Area Caucus voted to endorse Hazan with 77% of the vote—roaring past the 60% requirement and earning her the SDCDP’s endorsement in late August.
“I’m humbled to have earned the support of the San Diego County Democratic Party and their trust in the skills I will bring to the SDUSD School Board as a mom, former teacher, and nonprofit executive,” said Hazan. “On the board, I will work every day to build stronger communities and more equitable schools that allow all of our students, in every neighborhood, to reach their full potential and give them the opportunities they need to succeed.”
Hazan, who serves as Vice Chair of the California Children & Families Commission (First 5 California) and is the only parent with a child in SDUSD schools in the District B race, placed first in the top-two primary election in June, defeating two opponents. Winning with more than 52% of the total vote, Hazan earned more votes in the primary than the combined total of her opponents.
