| SAN DIEGO, CA — Last night, Shana Hazan former public school teacher, nonprofit executive, and parent of an SDUSD student, placed first in the top-two primary election for the San Diego Unified School District (SDUSD) Board of Education District B with 52.32% of the vote, advancing to the November general election. “I want to thank every single person across our District B communities – from Kearny Mesa and Tierrasanta to Allied Gardens and Del Cerro – who took the time to perform our most sacred civic duty by voting for our campaign to build a school district where all students can thrive. I am deeply grateful for the support I have received from parents, educators, and dedicated community leaders in recent months and am humbled by our success in the primary. I look forward to my continued partnership with community stakeholders as we work together to achieve victory in November,” said Hazan of her victory. “Our message of closing the achievement gap, increasing transparency and accountability, and providing wraparound services for students who need them has resonated across District B. “On the School Board, I will always make sure our kids come first, that parent and family voices are elevated and respected, and that educators have the resources and support they need. As the only candidate in this race with a child in our schools, I have heard loud and clear from voters how important it is to have a parent on our school board who understands what our families are going through. With your help, we can make sure every student in every school can reach their full potential.” Hazan, who serves as Vice Chair of the California Children & Families Commission (First 5 California) and is the only parent with a child in SDUSD schools in her District B race, will go on to face Godwin Higa in the general election.
