As a First 5 California Commissioner – and the mom of young daughters who has seen firsthand the difference talking, reading, and singing can make in a young child’s life – Shana was excited to celebrate San Diego County’s first annual Talk, Read, Sing Day, and encourage families across the county to incorporate these joyful and impactful activities into their daily routines. Talking, reading, and singing to babies and young children, starting the day they are born, makes a tremendous difference when it comes to their learning today and long into the future. These simple actions allow parents and caregivers to develop strong bonds with their little ones and build their social and emotional well-being.
Research shows that over the long term, talking, reading, and singing is associated with children who are better prepared for school and life – and able to reach their full potential.
